Scheana Shay Reveals Her Journey in New Book

Scheana Shay opens up in her memoir, My Good Side, reflecting on her life, including her childhood, experience on VanderPump Rules, and her marriage to Michael Shay.

Fans witnessed her wedding during season 3 of VanderPump Rules. Sadly, their marriage ended only two years later, with Scheana filing for divorce in 2016. In her book, she reveals that their relationship unraveled due to a mix of factors, such as Shay’s struggles with addiction and troubling dynamics with other women.

According to Scheana, Shay’s go-to drinks were a mix of prescription medications and beer. She mentions that there were warning signs throughout their relationship but didn’t realize the extent of his substance issues until their wedding day in 2014. Scheana recalls asking Shay to refrain from drinking so she could enjoy the evening without interference. However, as the celebration progressed, she began noticing odd behaviors.

Shay was supposed to perform a song he had written for Scheana during the ceremony, but when that didn’t happen, Tom Sandoval proposed a post-reception performance. But there was a strange vibe.

“Once we returned to Casita, Shay looked off. His eyes were glazed, and he seemed unsteady on his feet, almost like he was teetering,” Scheana wrote, admitting that she felt confused and unsure if he had been drinking. The full realization came weeks later.

“We were at Tom’s house, and he offered us these little blue pills, claiming they were ecstasy. I’ve never tried it, so I rejected it outright,” Scheana explained. “But Shay, looking bewildered, thought they were the same pills I had given him at the wedding and assumed they were Adderall. We were both taken aback.”

“Shay didn’t intend to be a mess that night. He only hoped it wouldn’t catch up with him later,” she continued, adding that it left her questioning why he needed any medication at all, even Adderall.

Despite the turbulent end showcased in the season 5 finale, Scheana says she’s in a “good place” with her ex-husband and even reached out to him after the loss of his mother in 2023.
