Cutdown Day is approaching for the Giants, which could signal the end of Tommy DeVito’s time with the team he grew up supporting.
The fourth-string quarterback had a noteworthy outing during the preseason finale against the Patriots, going 17 for 20, racking up 198 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
DeVito, hailing from New Jersey, has started eight games (with a 3-5 record) over the past two seasons. However, the Giants brought in veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason and even spent a draft pick on Jackson Dart.
“I think he’s really coming into his own since his rookie season. Last year, and even this preseason, there’s plenty of tape showcasing his potential in this league,” one source noted. “He’s matured a lot. Initially, he was pretty quiet, but now he’s probably the most seasoned player in that quarterback room.”
It sounds like there’s a lot of hope for DeVito, and it’s exciting to think about the opportunities ahead of him.
Meanwhile, the Giants have released veteran safety K’Von Wallace and placed cornerback T.J. Moore on injured reserve. Moore had surgery on a broken leg and was present at the team’s facility recently.
“He’s doing okay, but it’s a serious injury,” Giants coach Brian Daboll mentioned before practice.
On another note, tight end Theo Johnson and offensive lineman Josh Ezeudu missed practice on Sunday. Tight ends Jermain Terry and safety Raheem Blackshear were seen working with trainers.
