Kansas City Chiefs Secure Overtime Win Over Colts
In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs received some strong support from former NFL quarterback Tony Romo during a pivotal moment in the game against the Indianapolis Colts.
With under five minutes left on the clock and the Chiefs up by three, Kelce was flagged for offensive pass interference. This call came when Patrick Mahomes connected with Kareem Hunt on a swing route just a few yards from the line.
“Honestly, that was the worst call I’ve seen all year. Just terrible,” Romo remarked. “Kelce was being closely guarded. They claim he was running routes and that he interfered with No. 53, but that’s not what happened. He was simply dealing with the defenders covering him.” He added, “It’s ridiculous; similar scenarios unfold on nearly every play.”
Despite the penalty pushing them back to their own 3-yard line, the Chiefs managed to regroup. Mahomes orchestrated a successful 15-play, 87-yard drive, culminating in a field goal by Harrison Butker that tied the game and pushed it into overtime.
Eventually, the Chiefs emerged victorious with a final score of 23-20 after another solid drive, which once again ended with Butker kicking a field goal. This comeback featured 14 unanswered points from Kansas City.
Currently at 6-5 for the season, the Chiefs are looking to build momentum, particularly after defeating a top team in the AFC South.
Mahomes shared his thoughts post-game, reflecting on their earlier losses. “All five of our losses have felt like this one. We missed key plays, and it’s frustrating,” he noted. “We’ve talked a lot, but today, we showed what we can do.”
