Toobin on Abrego Garcia: “I Doubt We’ll See Him Again—Basically Ever!”

Toobin on Abrego Garcia: 'I don't think he's coming back, basically ever'

Legal expert Jeffrey Toubin mentioned that Kilmer Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador earlier this year, did not expect to come back to the United States.

Recently, the Supreme Court instructed the Trump administration to “facilitate” the release of Abrego Garcia from detention, yet President Trump and Salvadoran President Naive Bukel contended that they lacked the authority to do so.

In a discussion with CNN, Toubin stated that if El Salvador declines to extradite Abrego Garcia, it may not retaliate, as he believes the country’s Supreme Court is unwilling to create an international dilemma.

“I don’t believe they desire the international conflict they have initiated,” Toubin remarked to CNN’s John Berman.

“And if El Salvador declares, ‘We won’t hand him over,’ they will proceed with caution,” he added. “I think this Supreme Court would conclude, ‘Well, there’s nothing we can do in that situation.’ ”

“Do you think this individual will return?” Berman inquired.

“I fundamentally believe he will not return,” Toubin responded.

Abrego Garcia was deported following allegations from a confidential informant accusing him of being a part of the MS-13 gang in New York. His family asserts that they escaped El Salvador due to gang violence and have never resided in the Empire State.

During a meeting at the White House on Monday, Trump and Bukel indicated that they would not facilitate his return. These remarks followed the administration’s acknowledgment earlier this month of mistakenly deporting him to a high-security facility in Central America.

“How do I bring him back to the US? Should I smuggle him into the US? Of course, that’s not something I would do,” Bukel branded Abrego Garcia as a terrorist. “The situation is absurd.”

“I lack the authority to return him to the US. I am not releasing him. Therefore, we aren’t generally inclined to turn over terrorists to the US,” he added.

Attorney General Pam Bondy stated that the outcome regarding Abrego Garcia rests with El Salvador and the United States is not merely dispatching potential transports.

“The Supreme Court… indicates that if El Salvador wishes to send him back… we will assist and supply the aircraft,” she stated.
