Week 2 Exempt Wire Watch
The 2025 NFL season is kicking off, alongside a new fantasy football season for managers exploring different formats. Many of you are probably eyeing ways to bolster your running back depth after week one, and we’ve got some insights for you.
Let’s take a look at the running back performances from week one. This is a chance to scoop up some players from the exemption wire before the second week. We consider exemptions for those who are on about 60% of fantasy teams.
Braelon Allen, RB, New York Jets (56.7%)
Allen didn’t completely take carries from starter Breece Hall, who many expected to shine in the Jets’ opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Still, he managed to score a touchdown in a close game, ending 34-32. With 6 carries for 9 yards, his performance wasn’t exactly stellar, but the red zone touchdown indicates he could be valuable in scoring situations. If you’re considering picking him up from the exemption wire, this week might be the ideal time.
Week 2 matchup: vs. Buffalo Bills, 1pm
Trey Benson, RB, Arizona Cardinals (48.7%)
Benson has emerged as a top handcuff option this season, exceeding expectations in a 20-13 win over the New Orleans Saints. In fact, during the opener, he outperformed starter James Conner, showcasing explosive skills with 68 rushing yards on 8 carries. The preseason buzz seems valid, and he’ll likely be getting a lot of touches as the season progresses.
Week 2 matchup: vs. Carolina Panthers, 4:05pm
Dylan Sampson, RB, Cleveland Browns (43.4%)
The Browns faced off against the Cincinnati Bengals and ended up with a narrow 17-16 loss. However, Sampson’s debut was a highlight. The Tennessee rookie received a solid workload, racking up 64 receiving yards alongside 27 rushing yards on 12 carries. His efforts translated to 17.3 points in PPR leagues, and his growing rapport with quarterback Joe Flacco is something to watch.
Week 2 matchup: @Baltimore Ravens, 1pm
DJ Giddens, RB, Indianapolis Colts (5.2%)
The Colts had a decisive victory over the Miami Dolphins, winning 33-8. Another notable aspect was Giddens’ performance in his first NFL game. The Kansas rookie got a chance to shine, gaining 41 yards on 12 carries while working behind Jonathan Taylor. He appears to be a solid handcuff for the All-Pro running back as the season unfolds.
Week 2 matchup: vs. Denver Broncos, 4:05pm
