Top five Jets players to watch

Ahead of the start of training camp, The Washington Post’s Brian Costello breaks down the top five Jets players to watch.

Aaron Rodgers, QB

You wouldn’t think of hiring a backup guard, would you?

All eyes will be on Rodgers as he returns from a ruptured Achilles.

It will be interesting to see if the Jets give him rest and if he plays during the preseason.

His athleticism is a big question mark.

He can still pitch it.

Haason Reddick, DE

He’s a player to watch to see if he’s there.

Redick joined the team in a trade with the Eagles but is unhappy with his contract.

He was away all spring.

Missing a training camp will result in a fine.

He could “hold his own” and claim an injury and avoid the fine, but still not practice.

Tyron Smith, LT

The Cowboys managed Smith well last season, with him playing in 13 games, his most since 2019.

The Jets will likely take the same approach, meaning Smith will get plenty of rest in camp.

Still, they need this offensive line to get time together.

It will be a balance.

Braylon Allen, RB

The rookie out of Wisconsin had an impressive spring, especially catching the ball out of the backfield.

Will he be able to bring that to camp?

He would be a potential X-factor for this offense as a complement to Breece Hall.

Will McDonald, DE

The 2023 first-round draft pick had a limited role as a rookie but showed flashes of talent.

With Bryce Huff and John Franklin-Myers gone, will McDonald have a bigger role or will he still be competing for playing time?

A strong training camp will help him.
