Week 6 Exemption Wire Watch
October has begun, and we’ve just wrapped up another NFL weekend. Interestingly, some of the standout performances among running backs this week came from the backups. It’s a great time to consider boosting your roster’s depth by picking up a few of these players.
Let’s take a look at the key players from week 5. It’s definitely worth checking the exemption wire as we head into week 6. Just a reminder: we categorize exemptions for players who are on 60% of max leagues.
Week 6 bye: Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings
Rico Dowdle, RB, Carolina Panthers (48.2%)
With Chuba Hubbard out due to a calf injury during Sunday’s matchup against the Dolphins, Dowdle stepped in. And, well, he had quite the performance, helping the Panthers overcome a 17-point deficit for a 27-24 win. No pressure, right?
He completely dominated Miami’s defense, racking up 23 carries for 206 rushing yards and a touchdown, plus he caught a 28-yard pass. Dowdle was already proving to be a reliable backup for Hubbard, but it seems likely he’ll see even more carries moving forward, regardless of when Hubbard returns. If you’re in need of a running back, you might want to act fast before it’s too late.
Week 6 matchups: vs. Dallas Cowboys, 1 p.m.
Michael Carter, RB, Arizona Cardinals (46.4%)
The Cardinals really fell apart in the fourth quarter during their 22-21 loss, marking their third straight defeat. However, Carter had a decent outing, gaining 51 rushing yards, 22 receiving yards, and a touchdown. With injuries to both James Conner and Trey Benson, Carter stepped in and carried the ball 18 times, likely taking over as the RB1 in Arizona for now. Just like with Dowdle, consider putting in your bid before it slips away.
Week 6 matchups: @ Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m.
Kendre Miller, RB, New Orleans Saints (19.9%)
The Saints managed to defeat the Giants 26-14, achieving their first win of the season. Miller contributed with 10 carries for 41 yards. It wasn’t a standout performance by any means, but an interesting note: he outran Alvin Kamara that day, and not by a small margin. Miller is quickly becoming a solid backup option for the starters, and he should continue to see action as the Saints figure out their offensive identity. Definitely worth keeping on your radar.
Week 6 matchups: vs. New England Patriots, 1 p.m.
Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons (33.5%)
The Falcons had a bye last week, but it’s a good reminder to consider Allgeier, especially after his performance two weeks ago where he had 16 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown. He’s been a useful backup in his contract year, and his stats indicate he’s still playing well. If the Falcons can maintain their competitive edge in the playoff race, Allgeier will definitely be key in their success.
Week 6 matchups: vs. Bills, 7:15 p.m. (Monday night)
