Tough Crowd: Milwaukee Fans Slam Cubs Manager Craig Counsell With Boos While Brewers Oddly Show Video Tribute For Him

The Brewers must have been trying to set Craig up for failure…

As a player, current Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell totaled 16 Campaign Counsell played two MLB seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, from which he retired in 2011. After retiring, he signed with the Milwaukee front office and became the team’s manager in 2015.

Counsell served as the Brewers’ manager for nine seasons, leading the team to five playoff appearances in his final six seasons. Counsell also led Milwaukee to three National League Central Division championships. However, despite all the success, Counsell only won one postseason series with the Brewers. Counsell left his position last offseason after 13 years with the organization as a player, executive and manager, to become manager of the rival Chicago Cubs. To make the situation even more interesting, Milwaukee offered Counsell an attractive contract to stay, but the Cubs offered him a better deal, so Counsell decided to move on.

Needless to say, Brewers fans were furious, and they let their anger out on Monday when Milwaukee hosted their former manager for the first time since Dodge’s departure. While a video tribute to a special figure who has left a franchise is standard practice, it’s probably not the best move with a rivalry at its boiling point at an all-time high. But that’s exactly what the Brewers did, and it was just poor timing that set Counsell up for failure.

By failure, I mean the Milwaukee fans booed him incredibly loudly.
