Tour de France 2024: stage eight heads to Colombey-les-Deux-Églises – live | Tour de France 2024

A Saturday sprint special on the Tour, give or take a breakaway, perhaps from a Frenchman. After a day when GC came back into focus and the coming force, Remco Evenepoel, showed off his TT expertise, to show that Pogacar might actually have a challenger, then it’s back to the sprint trains and the GC teams to protect their own. And there’s always the chance that something happens along the way. It’s the Tour after all.

Sprinter Mads Pedersen dropped out of the raceMark Cavendish was injured in a crash just before he was set to take a record-breaking win on Stage 5.

From Team Lidl:

Unfortunately, Mads Pedersen will not be able to take to the start line of Stage 8 of the Tour de France after crashing in the mass sprint on Stage 5 to Sant’Vrba, forcing him to withdraw from the race.

The Danish rider completed stages six and seven but the pain, swelling and moment range in his left shoulder had not subsided, making it nearly impossible for him to control his bike.

meanwhile The initial x-rays showed no signs of fracture. After consulting with the team, the decision was made that it would be in the best interest of Mads to withdraw from racing in order to further assess the extent of the injury and to give him the proper rest and recovery he needs to focus on his goals for the remainder of the summer and the end of the season.

“After losing Tao, it’s a shame to lose Mad like this too. [Geoghegan Hart] Before the start, we will have a Plan B to race aggressively, because the match with Cicco is still on.” – Luca Guercilena, General Manager

Mats just said about his team, “These motherfuckers have got to win some stages now,” and he’s now gearing up for the Olympics.

William Fotheringham describes the stage today as follows:

Stage 8, Saturday 6 July: Semur-en-Auxois to Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, 183.5km

The breathtaking route continues, passing through cultural, culinary and historical sites. Now we head to the birthplace and burial place of Charles de Gaulle. In 1960, on the way to Troyes, the riders stopped to greet France’s wartime leader. Disappointingly, Pierre Bouffeille, who was in the bottom, took advantage of a break to storm up the road and win the stage. No chance today. A sprint from the fourth pack is expected.
