Chris Froome Injured in Training Crash

Four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome sustained significant injuries in a serious training accident on Wednesday. He was rushed to a hospital in Toulon via airlift following the crash.

According to an update on his X account, he is currently stable and hasn’t incurred any head injuries. However, scans revealed he has fractures in five ribs, a lumbar vertebra, and Pneumoniae. Froome is scheduled to undergo surgery later today.

His team confirmed that no other cyclists or vehicles were involved in the incident.

Froome first won the Tour de France in 2013 and successfully defended his title three times, notably becoming the first to do so after Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven victories. He clinched his most recent victory in the 2018 Giro d’Italia and has twice won Spain’s Vuelta, in 2011 and 2017.

It’s worth mentioning that Froome has faced challenges since a crash during the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2019, where he broke his right femur and suffered other serious injuries. Since then, he hasn’t quite returned to his previous form.

The 40-year-old cyclist has been with Israel Premier Tech since 2021, but with his contract nearing its end and now this recent crash, his future in professional cycling may be uncertain.
