Tourist from the U.S. attempts to order an Olive Garden-inspired meal in Italy

Mama Mia

It’s well-known that Italian-American cuisine isn’t quite the same as what you’d find in Italy. So, if you’re in an Italian restaurant in Italy, expecting to order fettuccine alfredo or chicken parmesan, well, good luck with that.

One American tourist discovered this the hard way during a trip to Italy. Not only did he attempt to order a chicken parmesan-like dish, but he also tried to show a waiter a picture of a large, breaded chicken cutlet served with pasta from Olive Garden.

This amusing culture clash was captured in a video that went viral on Tiktok, racking up over 7 million views. The clip features the text overlay, “My Boston Irish father is about to order Google images of Italian Olive Garden Chicken Palm.”

The waiter’s reaction? A look of shock followed by the words, “Only in America. It doesn’t exist in Italy. I don’t know what that is. With pasta, it’s scary.”

Even though this tourist made quite the faux pas, he’s not the only one. There was another incident involving two American tourists who mistakenly boarded a flight to Africa, believing they were headed to France.

This story is shared through an amusing Tiktok video that has gone viral, where one of the girls asks, “Is this okay?” while looking for a seatmate. The reply? “Tunis, yeah,” without realizing their mix-up.

In a follow-up video, the Tiktoker explains the panic that ensued upon landing, with the confusion finally resolved when they ended up in Nice, France.
