Trader Joe’s Brings Back Chocolate Mascarpone for the Holidays
It seems like Christmas has arrived a bit earlier this year at Trader Joe’s. The beloved holiday treat, chocolate mascarpone, is back on shelves and will be available until the year’s end.
Longtime fans of this rich, creamy spread—a product that actually falls into the cheese category—have flocked to Reddit, expressing their excitement about its return.
“They stopped selling it about seven years ago,” a user named @rastacola mentioned. “That was the only time I emailed a company to consider bringing something back (lol). It’s definitely a 10/10!” This kind of enthusiasm is evident throughout a dedicated Reddit thread celebrating its reintroduction.
The retailer describes the seasonal delight, priced at $3.99 and offering about eight two-tablespoon servings, as “a creamy, spreadable dessert cheese that will make your wildest Christmas dreams come true.” You can find it in the cheese section of the store.
The website suggests various delicious uses for it, like topping it on strawberries, crepes, or even bagels.
With only 120 calories per serving, this dessert is surprisingly simple, containing just five ingredients: pasteurized cream, pasteurized milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and citric acid. It’s a light treat that doesn’t skimp on flavor—Trader Joe’s describes it as rich without being overly chocolaty or bitter.
The excitement on Reddit is mostly positive, as fans share their creative ways of enjoying the spread. One user, @DulceSiren, shared their experience of savoring it with “hot honey popcorn, bread, and a spoon.” But not everyone feels the same way. One poster, @Timely_Cranberry1270, expressed disappointment, saying, “I didn’t really like it. I felt it had a bland taste.”
However, this negative view seems to be in the minority. Most Trader Joe’s shoppers, whether they’re seasoned visitors or new customers, are thrilled to try the dessert.
A TikTok video by user @laurenmadisonwellness showcases the spread, captioned simply: “No words needed, just Trader Joe’s Seasonal Chocolate Mascarpone,” and has garnered about 4,000 views. The clip shows the creamy product being mixed in a container.
This revival of chocolate mascarpone isn’t the only exciting news from Trader Joe’s this year. They’ve also brought back pudding cups, which were discontinued four years ago, now available in “Chocolate Pudding” and “Rice Pudding” flavors.
Earlier this year, Trader Joe’s held its annual Customer Choice Awards, highlighting 11 winning products across various categories. One standout was the Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips, earning the title of Best Overall Product for three consecutive years.
Snacks aren’t the only attraction at Trader Joe’s lately. In mid-November, they introduced a new micro tote bag, still available in stores for a limited time at $2.99, coming in red, green, and blue.
One Reddit user observed, “Trader Joe’s is a weirdo when it comes to grocery shopping. It’s not the best spot for general groceries since it’s small and has limited produce.” They went on to explain that the store selects its brands carefully, maintaining high quality at reasonable prices, which many shoppers seem to appreciate.
