The company told Nexstar's Koin that restrictions are currently in place at all locations in the US.
“Due to the ongoing issues with egg supply, we are currently limiting egg purchases to a dozen customers per day at all Trader Joe stores across the country,” said a spokesman for Trader Joe. One Nachia Rod said in an email: “We hope these restrictions will help many of our customers who need eggs to buy them when they visit Trader Joe.”
The grocery store website shows that a dozen meadows grow large brown eggs cost around $5.
Other companies are taking various steps to address ongoing issues.
Tuesday, Reported by the Associated Press That restaurant chain Waffle House adds an additional $0.50 per egg, and its decision is attributed to the avian flu.
The outbreak of avian flu, which began in 2022, is primarily condemning the surge in prices. Whenever the virus is discovered on a poultry farm, the entire herd is slaughtered, helping to limit the spread of the virus. Also, large egg farms routinely house more than one million chickens, so a small number of infections can cause supply crunches.
Meanwhile, US egg prices have risen significantly last year. Recent data from the Labor Bureau shows that it has risen by about 40% since January 2024, with the agricultural sector projecting prices to rise by another 20% this year.
