Michael Lopez-Ferrer, a 30-year-old Salinas, Calif., resident who frequently traveled to Eastern Washington carrying illegal drugs from Mexico, was sentenced to prison.

Prosecutors said Ferrell told an informant over the phone that he commuted to Yakima from Mexico every week with 180 to 220 pounds of methamphetamine.
The informant arranged to meet Ferrell in March 2022 at a storage facility in Pasco under the supervision of DEA and Tri-City Metro Narcotics Task Force personnel.
The informant told Ferrell he could bring in up to 20 pounds of methamphetamine at $2,000 per pound, as well as 500 pills of fentanyl.
When Ferrell arrived in Pasco without any drugs, he spoke with an informant about lowering the price if he didn’t have to deliver them.
They planned to meet at Prosser’s location the next day to pick up 10 pounds of methamphetamine. Ferrell apparently gave the substance to the man in a Ziploc bag.
The informant then set up another meeting to pay Ferrell. It was at that meeting that authorities arrested Ferrell. Authorities executed two search warrants for two residences in Sunnyside. Inside one of the homes, authorities found 10.5 pounds of methamphetamine, a digital scale, a loaded handgun and $32,182.
“Mr. Ferrell participated in a cross-border drug trafficking scheme and was responsible for transporting large quantities of illegal narcotics into Eastern Washington and distributing those narcotics into the local community,” Vanessa of the Eastern District of Washington said.・U.S. Attorney Waldref said.
