Trail Blazers radio host Mike Lynch retires amid ALS battle

Mike Lynch, the popular Trail Blazers radio host, announced Friday that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The 34-year-old was diagnosed on January 2nd and plans to retire from the radio industry while he receives his diagnosis.

Lynch: “Unfortunately, this means the end of my radio career.” I wrote to X. “Thank you to everyone who listened for 12 years. I also thank the fans and the Blazers for believing in me and helping me grow into my dream career.

“This is really difficult, devastating and overwhelming for me. I would appreciate hearing from you, but please be patient as it is difficult to respond to everyone and I am not always available to speak with you.”

A graduate of Syracuse, Lynch worked for 1080 The Fan in Portland for 11 years before signing with the Trail Blazers, building a loyal following within the community.

He has been with the Trail Blazers since 2022.

For Lynch, working with the Trail Blazers was a “dream job.” According to GoFundMe The scheme was set up by his wife Ashley to help cover the costs of battling neurological diseases.

Lynch and his wife have two children, ages 11 and 15.

“Since receiving his diagnosis, Mike has had to leave his career with the Blazers and has struggled to do the work he truly enjoyed prior to his diagnosis,” the GoFundMe wrote. “He was rushed to see an ALS specialist who began treatment aimed at slowing the progression and extending his life by up to a year.

“Auxiliary devices such as stairlifts, climbing aids, and mobility aids that will soon be installed will need to be installed in the home and used regularly. We also hope to find a cure. , awaiting acceptance into clinical trials.”
