Mike Smith, known for his role as “Bubbles” in the beloved Canadian series Trailer Park Boys, has reportedly resigned from his media company following sexual assault charges. The 53-year-old actor made an appearance at a court in Nova Scotia on October 2. According to reports, the allegations stem from an incident that took place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on December 30, 2017.
In a statement to CBC, Trailer Park Boys acknowledged the serious nature of the allegations, mentioning their awareness of them dating back to 2017. They expressed an understanding of the difficulty these situations present for everyone involved, yet—out of respect for the ongoing legal process—declined to comment further.
Specifics regarding the alleged assault were not included in the court documents, it was noted. Smith is now barred from contacting the alleged victim or approaching her place of work, home, or educational institution.
Following these allegations, Smith has stepped down from his role as executive director of Trailer Park Boys. He has been a central figure in the show, alongside Rob Wells and John Paul Tremblay, since it began, and acquired the series’ rights in 2013.
Currently, production for the 13th season of Trailer Park Boys is ongoing and is set to conclude in August. It’s scheduled to premiere in 2026, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the show’s first season. Interestingly, the team has confirmed they plan to release this new Netflix season despite the accusations against Smith, emphasizing their commitment to delivering it to fans.
It’s worth mentioning that Smith has faced legal troubles before. In April 2016, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, although those charges were later dropped due to insufficient evidence following an incident at a hotel in Los Angeles where a dispute with a woman escalated into violence.
As for the upcoming court date, Smith is expected to appear on Monday to address the new charges against him.
