Stabbing Incident on Train in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
British authorities have provided additional information regarding a stabbing that occurred on a train in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, during Saturday night. The incident left multiple individuals in critical condition, with at least 11 people reported injured.
As of Sunday morning, police confirmed that the suspects, who are “British-born,” remain in custody. British Transport Police Superintendent John Lovelace described the situation as “shocking,” extending thoughts to those affected and their families.
The suspects are identified as a 32-year-old man of black British heritage and a 35-year-old man of British Caribbean descent. Both have been arrested on charges of attempted murder.
Lovelace noted that initially, nine victims were reported with life-threatening injuries; however, most have since shown signs of recovery. “After further evaluation and treatment, four individuals have been discharged, while two continue in life-threatening condition,” he stated.
He also mentioned that counter-terrorism officers were aiding in the investigation earlier, but current findings do not suggest the incident has ties to terrorism. The inquiry is still ongoing as authorities work to clarify the circumstances and motivations behind the attack. He emphasized the importance of avoiding speculation at this point.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his condolences, calling the attack “deeply worrying.” He thanked emergency responders for their efforts and advised anyone in the vicinity to follow police guidance.
In response to the shocking event, local football clubs expressed their support. Huntingdon Town FC shared, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and we extend our gratitude to the emergency services involved.”
