Gunnar Peterson Reflects on Daughter’s Cancer Journey
Celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson expressed gratitude for the community’s support during a challenging time for his family. He shared on social media that his daughter Monroe, now five years old, was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. Peterson was overwhelmed by the outpouring of help from people around the world.
Fortunately, Monroe is in remission now, and Peterson took some time to reflect on her recovery from acute myeloid leukemia. “It’s okay, she’s in remission,” he told Fox News Digital, adding that while she still has a bimonthly IV port, she is doing well and shows resilience as a kindergartner.
Describing the turning point in his social media content, Peterson recalled posting about Monroe’s diagnosis in May 2024. The journey began when Monroe started showing unusual symptoms, prompting them to seek immediate medical attention. After undergoing several procedures, including a spinal tap and chemotherapy, she received the diagnosis of AML leukemia.
According to the American Cancer Society, AML is a type of leukemia that usually starts in the bone marrow and quickly spreads to the bloodstream and other parts of the body. At the time, Peterson urged people to keep their family in their thoughts, noting, “You never know what someone is going through.”
The family faced this challenging ordeal while living in Nashville, Tennessee, and Peterson expressed gratitude for the care Monroe received at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He mentioned that his wife, Janet, actively sought various treatments and alternative methods, demonstrating remarkable determination throughout the process.
Peterson highlighted the extensive network of support they received, which included people from various institutions across the country. “It’s heartwarming to see people come together, especially for kids,” he remarked. He emphasized the importance of reaching out to others during tough times, “Don’t sit there and think you’re alone. You’re not alone.”
Though he initially felt emotional about the time cancer took away from Monroe’s life, he noted that she now speaks more about her photos from the hospital than the actual experience. It’s an odd thought that she may not fully recall this time in her life, yet Peterson remains hopeful, stating, “We accept…the body will heal, the mind will heal.”
