Trans Representative Sarah McBride: Ilhan Omar Investigation Founded on False Allegations

Rep. McBride Defends Omar Amid Citizenship Investigation

Representative Sarah McBride (D-DE) criticized the Trump administration’s efforts to strip Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) of her citizenship, calling the allegations “nonsense” that have already been proven false. McBride, who identifies as transgender, voiced her support for Omar during a recent interview with United TV’s Weekly Update, as Omar deals with an immigration fraud investigation regarding her naturalization process and allegations of marrying her brother to aid his immigration status in the U.S.

In the interview, McBride dismissed claims that Omar had lied about her age during her father’s citizenship process, emphasizing that these claims were unsubstantiated.

McBride stated, “The fact that they are trying to go after my colleague, Ilhan Omar, and target her citizenship—a duly elected member of the United States House of Representatives—is based on these falsehoods regarding her age at the time of her father’s citizenship. This is simply because she has stood up against this president and the Republican party in power.”

McBride expressed his outrage, describing the situation as a disgraceful misuse of authority that jeopardizes people’s lives and citizenship rights, insisting this behavior has no place in a free society.

Earlier this month, federal investigators executed a raid on Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., seizing 17 items and collecting DNA in their investigation into potential immigration fraud. Additionally, she is also facing scrutiny for possible financial crimes.

Recently, Tom Homan, a former enforcement official under the Trump administration, mentioned that Omar could face denaturalization and deportation if the investigation confirms immigration fraud.

On Fox News Channel’s Big Weekend Show, Homan remarked, “I can’t speak to the specifics, but I’ve been informed they have a solid case. We will see where the evidence leads. If she broke the law, she should be held accountable.”

When asked about the possibility of Omar being denaturalized or deported, Homan affirmed, “Absolutely. If someone lies during the naturalization process, there’s a path to denaturalization. We’ve done it before.”

Omar has consistently denied the allegations against her. In a statement, she accused President Trump of misusing federal law enforcement against her, framing the situation as an attack on political opponents. She asserted, “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”
