Trump has signed an executive order to “defend women from gender ideological extremism and restore biological truth to the federal government.” The order requires the federal government to only recognize two genders, male and female, based on the invariant biological characteristics that must be reflected in official documents such as passports.

The Department of State, responsible for passports, will no longer issue passports with “X” markers that are available since 2021 and do not respect requests to change gender markers between “M” and “F.”
