The 82nd Golden Globe Awards, broadcast live Sunday on CBS, face an uphill battle with ratings, but tens of millions of Americans are trying to avoid woke sermons from wealthy celebrities. Viewership ratings have declined in recent years as people choose not to watch the show.

Last year's broadcast drew just 9.4 million viewers, far less than the pre-pandemic audience that drew twice as many viewers. As of 2020, approximately 18.4 million people watched the awards ceremony.

CBS tried to reboot the Globes last year by taking over from NBC, turning the annual party into a new and revamped version of the pseudo- and ethically questionable awards season ritual that became Hollywood's black sheep just two years ago. I tried to rebrand it as a version.

The organization behind the Globes (formerly the Hollywood Foreign Press Association) has long been a public joke in Hollywood, with members routinely accepting bribes from studios in the form of all-expenses-paid trips and other junkets.

Corporate news media has gone along with this travesty for decades, no doubt motivated by the revenue they receive in the form of consideration advertising. However, as ratings began to decline, the media began to criticize the Globes, exposing its ethical failings and lack of diversity. Both have been well known for many years.

Globe organizers have since said they have cleaned up their act and set ethical standards.
