A transgender athlete sparked controversy after appearing from the back of the pack and defying her female opponents to win a high school girls’ 400-meter race in Portland, beating her fellow students by dozens of yards. It’s brewing.
Aiden Gallagher, a 10th grade student at McDaniel High School who identifies as female, completely dominated Wednesday’s Portland Interhigh League Championship semifinals, dominating all of the competitors.

Despite the protests, the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) approved Gallagher’s participation under its rules.
