Michael Alfonso Runs for Congress
Michael Alfonso, son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, declared his candidacy for Duffy’s former seat on Wednesday. The 25-year-old announced on X that he’s pursuing a position in the Wisconsin 7th Congressional District, aiming to “keep the American Dream alive.” Alfonso mentioned in his video that his family in Wisconsin is a major motivation for his run.
“Some people argue we need more experienced figures in Congress, but they’re the ones who have contributed to the current issues,” he stated in his announcement video. “What we really need are leaders with strong values, fresh energy, and the courage to advocate for America’s future.”
Alfonso shared his connection to Wisconsin, reminiscing about hunting, fishing, and playing hockey in the area. “Now I’m running for Congress to fight for my hometown. It’s time to reclaim opportunity and prioritize Wisconsin families,” he tweeted.
The 7th Congressional District is a solidly Republican area. Currently represented by Congressman Tom Tiffany, who recently decided to run for governor in 2026, the seat previously belonged to Duffy from 2011 to 2019. In the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump won the district by a significant margin.
Evita Duffy Alfonso, Michael’s wife, expressed her support, stating he would “fight like hell” for Wisconsin if elected. In her social media post, she reflected on his character: “He has faith, grit, and a love for this country. He’s a Christian and America First. He’ll do everything he can for our home!”
Alfonso draws inspiration from Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. He emphasizes the need to prioritize American jobs and align with Trump’s “America First” economic policies, asserting, “American jobs come first.”
Interestingly, Alfonso is younger than Maxwell Frost, the current youngest member of the House. As for Trump, he hasn’t publicly endorsed anyone yet to take over Tiffany’s seat. Other Republicans in the race include Jesse, a public relations expert, and attorney Paul Wassgren.
