Young made history on Saturday at the Travelers Championship, delivering his best Jim Furyk impersonation by shooting a sub-60 score.

Cameron Young took advantage of the soft conditions at TPC River Highlands in the third round of the Travelers Championship, firing an 11-under 59 to move into a tie for the lead with Tom Kim at 13 under.

Young became the first player since Scottie Scheffler to post a sub-60 round on the PGA Tour at TPC Boston in 2020, and just the 12th player to post a sub-60 round on Tour; Jim Furyk has done it twice, shooting a historic 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

The 27-year-old’s previous best score was a 62 he shot in the second round of the 2022 Genesis Invitational.

Young made putts of over 115 feet in the third round, including one from 9 feet, 7 inches. Par Putt 18 secured 59.

He took “Moving Day” seriously, as Young jumped 42 spots to the top of the leaderboard.

Young finished the first four holes at 5 under with three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 third hole, then added two more birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to finish 28 strokes behind.

He made another birdie on the par-5 13th hole, then his second eagle of the day on the 15th hole to move to 10 under par, and needed one more birdie with three holes to go to break 60. That birdie came on the par-4 17th hole, when Young made a 5-foot putt for his seventh birdie.

But the par on No. 18 was his most important shot. It wasn’t an easy putt, but Young kept his cool and made it without hesitation.

Young has one runner-up finish, four top 10s and five top 25s this year, but he hasn’t been in his best form since the Masters.

But when he joined an elite club for golfers under 60 in Connecticut, something clicked.
