Summer Travel Trends Highlight Quaint Destinations

As the summer vacation season kicks off, many Americans are leaning toward “quaint” locations. A recent report from Priceline outlines the travel trends for 2025, showcasing a movement dubbed “Townsizing,” which emphasizes the charm of smaller towns.

The report suggests that people are starting to prioritize simplicity in their travels, reflecting a desire for a restful escape in less bustling environments. “Americans want simplicity and travel to find it,” the report observes, noting a shift towards quaint settings for relaxation.

Interestingly, the report also points out how this trend resonates differently across generations. While Baby Boomers may appreciate the laid-back atmosphere of small towns, Gen Z seems drawn to these spots for their cinematic charm—echoing scenes from familiar films.

In fact, Gen Z travelers are reportedly 89% more inclined than the average vacationer to seek experiences reminiscent of a “Nancy Myers lifestyle.” This lifestyle often includes visits to picturesque destinations like Old Saybrook in Connecticut or Cape Cod in Massachusetts, which channel the cinematic appeal many find comforting.

According to the report, 67% of Gen Z view vacations as an opportunity to indulge in their small-town fantasies. These trips cater to those who want to unwind and explore local shops and eateries away from the rush of city life.

Amy Thomasson, a travel advisor from Indiana, has noted increasing interest in these quiet getaways in her area. She describes the Baden/France Rick region as a prime example of this trend in action.

Thomasson mentions that many travelers are less concerned with ticking off a list of popular activities. Instead, they’re leaning toward simple, idyllic experiences. Many are seeking quick weekend escapes where they can easily drive, enjoy good accommodations, and have fun without the complications of air travel.

Overall, this emerging trend seems to mirror a broader desire for easier, more enjoyable travel experiences that allow for meaningful moments in charming surroundings.
