Travis Hunter reveals his strategy for Week 1 with the Jaguars

Jaguars’ Plan for Travis Hunter

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a decision regarding Travis Hunter’s role for the upcoming game. They plan to utilize him across “all wide receiver and situational corners” during their matchup against the Panthers on Sunday, according to a report by ESPN.

This approach reflects Hunter’s ambition to be a two-way player in the NFL, but it’s not a fixed plan for the entire season. The Jaguars are considering a fluid usage strategy that may change week to week, as ESPN noted.

Jaguars head coach Liam Cohen emphasized the need for flexibility in their game plan. “We have to have options available,” he remarked to reporters. “What we aim to achieve on both sides will certainly evolve.”

Currently, it seems this decision is partly aimed at keeping opponents guessing. Hunter, chosen as the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, faced some challenges in the preseason, missing training camp practices due to injuries from two preseason games.

Cohen mentioned, “He was out for a bit, so we need to be aware that, if something seems off, we should engage in order to ensure we’re all on the same page.”

Hunter’s aspiration to maintain dual roles in his professional career is recurring. He has expressed a strong preference for not limiting himself to just one position, hinting at how committed he is to playing both wide receiver and cornerback.

Just before the draft, Hunter stated he would choose to step away from football rather than specialize in one position. “I can’t imagine playing just one role,” he told CBS Sports in April. “I’ve been on the field long enough to know that I thrive when I can impact the game from both sides.”
