Travis Kelce’s Touchdown Disallowed in Chiefs vs. Colts Game
In a significant game against the Indianapolis Colts, Travis Kelce’s potential 85th career touchdown was nullified in the first quarter. The Kansas City Chiefs, playing at Arrowhead Stadium, saw what seemed like a clear scoring opportunity slip away.
Kelce, positioned in shotgun formation, charged through the Colts’ defense and reached the end zone. The home crowd, anticipating the extra point from Harrison Butker for a possible tie, was soon dampened by unexpected news.
Officials flagged the Chiefs for a personal foul, stating that offensive lineman Ja’Wuan Taylor was required to wear a face mask during the play. As a result, the touchdown was erased, and the Chiefs faced a 15-yard penalty. The replay drew boos from the Kansas City fans in attendance.
Analysis of the replay suggested that Taylor’s arm was simply resting on the helmet of Colts player Kwity Paye — not a clear case of a foul, at least from some perspectives.
The incident generated considerable chatter among NFL fans on social media. Instead of the touchdown, the Chiefs managed to score a field goal, while the Colts capitalized, jumping ahead early in the second quarter with a 7-3 lead.
Despite last week’s three-point defeat to the Denver Broncos, where Kelce had nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown, he had shown his focus was more on the team’s overall performance rather than individual records.
As the Chiefs entered Week 12 with a 5-5 record, they found themselves needing to turn things around as the postseason approached.
