Kansas City Chiefs Face Playoff Exit as Mahomes Injured

The Kansas City Chiefs had a rough Sunday, getting knocked out of the playoffs after a narrow defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers, ending with a score of 16-13. However, the real heartbreak was the injury to star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a torn ACL.

Travis Kelce expressed his dismay, simply stating, “It sucks.” He elaborated on the impact of losing Mahomes, referring to him as a key figure of the team and a brother to the players. “It’s never easy to see players go down. This game has its challenges,” he mentioned in a podcast episode, emphasizing the team’s effort despite numerous injuries throughout the match.

“Seeing Mahomes go down like that was surreal; it just felt wrong,” Kelce said, acknowledging the dedication Mahomes brings to the sport. Late in the game, Mahomes got hurt, and backup Gardner Minshew stepped in, despite ultimately throwing an interception that dashed the team’s playoff hopes.

Kelce had a decent showing with seven catches for 70 yards during the game. This season, he has tallied 67 catches for 797 yards and five touchdowns across 14 games, maintaining his reputation as a ten-time Pro Bowler. The Chiefs now find themselves out of the playoffs for the first time since 2014, which is a significant blow, especially for Kelce, who pointed out that he is the only player on the current roster without playoff experience to this point in a career spanning over a decade.

Mahomes underwent surgery on both his ACL and LCL, which gives the team a glimmer of hope for an early recovery. Still, he won’t be part of the remaining three games this season, with the next matchup against the struggling Tennessee Titans.
