It seems they’re meant for each other.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift discussed their thoughts on marriage before confirming their engagement on Tuesday.
In a recent interview, which appeared in GQ just two weeks prior to their engagement announcement, Kelsey shared what he envisions a marriage with Swift would entail.
The NFL star reflected on his parents’ divorce, expressing hopes for a more enduring relationship. “A handful of my friends whose parents are still together and thriving inspire me,” he said.
He added, “I don’t think my parents did anything wrong, but if we’re going to start this, why not aim for forever? It’s not just something to keep it going for the kids.”
His parents, Ed, 74, and Donna, 72, were married for 25 years before separating, coinciding with their sons’ university graduations.
During the GQ interview, the reporter reminded Kelce of his previous comment about wanting a partner with qualities like his mother’s. When asked if Swift shares those traits, Kelse replied, “Their kindness, authenticity, and ability to connect with everyone in the room.” He praised both women for their love and support and also noted their strong work ethic.
“I watched my mom achieve her goals while working tirelessly, and I see Taylor doing the same—setting high expectations and captivating the world,” he mentioned.
Kelce noted that he and Swift enjoy a “normal” relationship. “When we’re not in front of the cameras, we’re just two people in love,” he said. Despite media coverage, he feels their connection developed quite naturally.
Swift has expressed her thoughts on marriage in the past. In 2012, she reflected on her role as a dedicated mother and said, “One day, I’m sure,” when discussing her future marriage plans.
Her songs often touch on marriage themes, including titles like “Lovers,” “Paper Rings,” and “Love Story.”
Swift recently shared photos from the engagement announcement, including a glimpse of her engagement ring alongside Kelce’s.
Swift pointed out in a playful manner, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married.”
The couple first sparked romance rumors in 2023 when Swift attended a Chiefs game, and Kelse made appearances at some of her ERAS tour shows as their connection deepened into 2024.
This month, Swift made her debut on the podcast “New Heights” hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, and she released her new album titled “The Life of a Showgirl” on October 3rd.
