Travis Kelce Returns to Chiefs Amid Speculation
There were doubts about whether 11-time Pro Bowler Travis Kelce would continue his career with the Kansas City Chiefs beyond 2026. However, those concerns have now been laid to rest.
After it was announced that he would be back with the only NFL team he’s ever known, the 36-year-old tight end shared that his decision was made “about halfway through” last season.
“We’re about halfway through the season,” Kelce remarked during a recent episode of the podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
Though the timing of his announcement led to some questions, he emphasized the importance of making a rational choice rather than an emotional one.
“I was taking Jason’s advice to step back. You need to clear your emotions and your mind. I’ve made decisions based on feelings that didn’t always lead to the best outcomes,” he explained. “This time, it was about calming down. I still have that drive. I disliked how things ended last season, and I want to fix that.”
Interestingly, Kelce attributed part of his motivation to return to the Chiefs to the prospect of NFL success, noting, “I want another shot at the Super Bowl.”
After finishing the 2025 season with a 6-11 record, the Chiefs are aiming to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014. With their offseason kicking off sooner than expected, the focus in Kansas City has been on Patrick Mahomes’ ACL injury and the uncertain future surrounding Kelce.
Last season, Kelce accumulated 851 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He was selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Recently, Kansas City grabbed headlines by signing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III to bolster their running back lineup.
