Gronkowski’s Prediction for Travis Kelce
Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski recently made some interesting comments regarding Travis Kelce’s career as the Kansas City Chiefs standout considers retirement, especially with just one game left in the season.
Kelce may have just played his last home game at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night, where the Chiefs faced off against the Denver Broncos. In that match, he caught five passes but, notably, didn’t score any points.
During a segment on “FOX NFL Sunday,” Gronkowski and the panel discussed Kelce’s offseason prospects. He mentioned, “I think he’s going to test the market, and when he returns, I expect him to be in the running for championships and Super Bowls. But right now, I don’t see that happening with the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Gronkowski added that the Chiefs may be entering a rebuilding phase, and that raises questions about Kelce’s future. “There are so many other opportunities he could explore outside of football. I wonder—what’s next for him? Is he still in love with the game?”
Kelce, who is in the final year of his contract, has set numerous receiving records during his 13 years with the Chiefs. While rumors about him potentially moving to another team aren’t rampant, it’s worth noting how Gronkowski’s own career took unexpected turns, like retiring from the Patriots only to play a few more seasons with the Buccaneers.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Howie Long also expressed curiosity about how effective Kelce would be if he chose to play one more season with Kansas City. Given the constraints of the salary cap, things will be complicated for the Chiefs, especially with Patrick Mahomes returning from a significant knee injury that cut short his 2025 season.
This could indeed be a pivotal year for the Chiefs as they look to rebuild and redefine their strategy moving forward.
