Economic Growth Insights from Treasury Secretary Bescent
Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent recently commented that we “haven’t seen anything yet” regarding the economic growth he observed during President Donald Trump’s tenure. This statement was made during an interview at a Breitbart News Policy event.
Breitbart’s Washington Director Matthew Boyle spoke with Secretary Bescent after the Department of Commerce reported a surprising 3% economic growth in the second quarter of 2025.
Bescent highlighted how economic growth is often accompanied by concerns over the potential repercussions of Trump’s tariff policy, which he emphasized marked “liberation day,” beginning on April 2.
In the interview, Bescent explained, “We were trying to calm those who were anxious on April 2nd. Peace agreements, trade contracts, and tax arrangements were all interconnected, and much of it raised questions about what could happen.”
Moreover, the President is encouraging Americans to remain untroubled about the challenges of implementing trade agreements or revitalizing American industry. He expressed, “The United States has a chance to achieve what should have been done long ago. Don’t be weak! Don’t be foolish! And don’t be a panican (a term for those lacking strength and common sense).”
Bescent also conveyed that ongoing initiatives in Big Beautifulville would bolster confidence in the American economy.
He mentioned, “If you consider one great element, it’s the confidence it instills. I believe it was Al Jolson—he famously said, ‘You haven’t seen anything yet.’”
Encouragingly, he further stated, “I believe that a strong performance in the third and fourth quarters will remind us of the growth we saw in the ’90s, which was marked by a long period of robust, unbiased expansion.”
In a notion reflecting his aspirations, Bescent remarked on increasing investments in AI to generate a productivity boom, mused about achieving results reminiscent of the ’90s.
