A multi-agency raid on an apartment complex in San Antonio, Texas, led to the arrest of a known Torren de Aragua gang enforcer, according to San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus. Police arrested four other confirmed TdA gang members and 15 suspects.
San Antonio police, Texas Department of Public Safety Gang Task Force agents, Homeland Security special agents, the FBI and U.S. Border Patrol agents responded to multiple complaints from an apartment complex on the city's north side. The apartment complex was searched early Saturday morning. , MySA.com reported. The charges included alleged gang activity in areas such as human trafficking, narcotics, and intimidation of apartment workers.
“We have received information that members of the transnational gang Torren de Aragua have taken control of the area and are committing various crimes,” Chief McManus said at a press conference. “SAPD officers and Texas DPS officers cleared nearly 300 vacant apartments at the complex this morning.”
The police chief said 20 people were detained. “One TdA member was identified as the gang's enforcer,” McManus added.
The chief said 15 people were being detained by immigration authorities. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers took four confirmed TdA gang members into custody.
“We want to assure the community and the public that we are committed to their safety and we are committed to addressing this TdA issue that seems to have become very public lately.” Mr. McManus said.
The chief said this is not the last crackdown on the TdA gang.
“We're tracking you, we're coming for you, and we know where you are,” McManus told reporters.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded to the police action, saying in a social media post: “We will not tolerate this gang in Texas.”
In a recent interview with Breitbart Texas, Governor Abbott said, “Our goal is to make sure we find them, identify them, locate them, arrest them, and lock them up.”
Breitbart also spoke with Texas Congressman Chip Roy about the issue of TdA gang members. The congressman said this is one result of open border policies implemented at the direction of President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
In a social media post on Saturday, Roy thanked the law enforcement officers involved in the arrest of the TdA gang members.
