Trevon Diggs Released by Cowboys Following Dispute

A recent disagreement is making waves regarding All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs and the Dallas Cowboys. New insights surfaced after the team decided to release him right before their final game of the season.

Diggs, who is 27 years old, was let go by the team on Tuesday. The timing caught some off guard, but, considering his injury struggles and limited play, it seemed to mark the end of his season.

After the announcement, NFL insiders reported details about a confrontation between Diggs and head coach Brian Schottenheimer related to the cornerback’s plans for Christmas. The team was scheduled to play the Washington Commanders in Maryland on Christmas Day, but it appears Diggs wanted to stay there with his family instead.

Schottenheimer supposedly refused that request, which led Diggs to assert he would return after the team landed back in Dallas. However, the team ultimately denied his wish again.

As per a Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter, Diggs made this request after the Cowboys’ win, which left him unwilling to board the flight back, opting to stay in Maryland. There has yet to be an official statement from the Cowboys regarding this matter.

In the eight games he played this season, Diggs recorded 25 tackles but did not manage any interceptions. Over his career with the Cowboys, he has notched 20 interceptions, along with 63 passes defensed and 240 total tackles in 66 games.

Currently, the Cowboys are out of playoff contention, holding a record of 7-8-1. They will take the field against the New York Giants in Week 18 without Diggs on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
