Jaguars Fans Are Riding High
If you’re a fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, life has been looking pretty good lately. Last season, they finished with a remarkable 13-4 record, marking their best performance since 1999. Now, just three games into the current season, they’re leading the AFC South and are backed by one of the most promising coach-quarterback duos in the league.
The Jaguars recently dominated the New England Patriots, last year’s AFC Champions, largely due to their quarterback’s stellar performance.
Looking Ahead: Jaguars Win Total Set at 8.5
On Sunday, Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes in a convincing 35-6 win. Interestingly, he had a chance to add to that tally with a rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
With the Jaguars ahead 28-6 and less than nine minutes to go, Lawrence carried out a designed run on a critical third down and found himself with some clear field ahead.
But in a surprising twist, he chose to slide just shy of the goal line.
I mean, what was he thinking? Sure, burning time is important when you’re ahead, but a touchdown there would have solidified a four-score lead with plenty of time left on the clock. I can’t help but wonder about the reasoning behind that decision.
The Patriots struggled offensively, managing only two field goals throughout the game. Even if they had somehow scored four touchdowns in quick succession, they would still have needed a two-point conversion to tie it up.
So honestly, what was going through Lawrence’s mind? I typically don’t get too worked up about plays like this, but, you know, the internet was ablaze with opinions, especially from frustrated fantasy football players who were ready to throw in the towel.
While I don’t quite agree with that move, I doubt it was anything sinister. It seems Lawrence’s intention was just to chew up as much game time as he could. I can see the logic there, even if it felt a bit unnecessary in the moment.
On a lighter note, I think it’s always amusing when theories pop up about player decisions. Lawrence himself poked some fun at the situation during his postgame interview, which is good for a laugh. So, conspiracy theorists, it looks like you have a point this time.
