Trey Yesavage Addresses Fan Harassment After ALDS Performance

Toronto Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage recently spoke out against fan harassment, revealing that his family was “attacked” following his performance, which contributed to the New York Yankees’ loss in the American League Division Series.

In Game 2, Yesavage set a postseason record, striking out 11 batters across 5 1/3 innings while maintaining a no-hitter. The issue was addressed shortly before the American League Championship Series began against Seattle.

“Living in this world with so many opinions and emotions can lead to so much hate. It’s frustrating to see my loved ones targeted because of what happens on the field,” he said.

He emphasized that his family members, including his parents and girlfriend, haven’t done anything to deserve such treatment. “It’s really upsetting,” he added.

While Yesavage acknowledged that fans have the right to express themselves, he insisted that family and friends should not be the recipients of that anger. “I recognize my role comes with scrutiny, and I’m okay with that. I’m just hoping people realize my family is separate from my actions on the field. If there’s a problem, I’m the one who should face it. I can take any feedback about me,” he stated.

In a related narrative, Yankees rookie Cam Schlitler also mentioned that he and his family faced online harassment after their victory over the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Series. He remarked, “I won’t delve into specifics, but there’s definitely a line that was crossed.” He added that he is motivated to keep pushing forward, explaining the aggressive nature of competition.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, found themselves in a challenging position after losing 10-3 to the Mariners, landing them in an 0-2 series deficit. “Tomorrow, we’ll take a moment as a team to reset and prepare for Game 3,” Yesavage noted, expressing optimism about their group.
