Suspect in Texas Murder Case Scheduled for Trial
An 18-year-old suspect is set to stand trial in June 2026 for the murder of Austin Metcalf, a high school student from Frisco, Texas. Karmelo Anthony faces serious charges related to a fatal stabbing incident that occurred during a track competition on April 2.
Dominique Alexander, representing the Anthony family, expressed confidence that they will be able to present their side of the story in court. “We look forward to the opportunity to share the facts,” he said.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the moments surrounding Metcalf’s stabbing at the Memorial High School track meet. Metcalf was only 17 at the time of the incident, which resulted in his death during a conflict within the team’s tent. Shortly after the stabbing, Anthony was apprehended on the school grounds and charged with first-degree murder on June 24.
Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis noted that evidence has been collected, with hopes of pursuing justice. He mentioned, “The accusations will now move this case to the court system officially. From this point on, we will continue to play our full and fair role in pursuing justice under the law.”
Following the charges, Anthony’s legal representation stated they are confident in the defense strategy. They suggested that, as the full story unfolds, they might demonstrate that Anthony acted in self-defense during the confrontation. Witness accounts indicated that there was an exchange before the stabbing, with Anthony reportedly warning Metcalf before drawing a knife from his bag.
Witnesses described the aftermath of the event, revealing that Metcalf succumbed to his injuries in the presence of his twin brothers. Initially held on a $1 million bond, Anthony’s bail was later reduced to $250,000, and he has now been released under house arrest.
Controversy has surrounded this case, especially given the family launched a GoFundMe campaign that has garnered over $544,000. Alexander, who advocates for racial issues, has positioned himself as a spokesperson for the Anthony family while raising questions about the motives behind the prosecution.
At a recent press conference, Alexander criticized those trying to bring political motives into the tragedy, specifically calling out Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, who had attempted to participate in the event. “These are my words—don’t quote anyone— to downplay the dignity of his son,” he remarked, expressing frustration over the situation.
The case continues to develop, with legal preparations underway as both sides brace for what is expected to be a challenging trial ahead.
