Trial Scheduled for Washington Parents Accused of Attempted Murder
The trial for Isan Ali and his wife, Zahura Ali, is set to begin on Monday in Thurston County. They face several serious charges connected to an alleged attempt to kill their 17-year-old daughter in October 2024.
Isan, 44, is facing charges that include a second attempted murder, and various domestic violence-related accusations, while Zahura, 40, who is also the mother of the victim, has charges related to violating a protection order and robbery.
Court documents referenced by various sources suggest that the incident on October 18, 2024, might have been a case of “honor killing.” Witness statements indicate that the situation escalated dramatically when the father allegedly choked the girl.
According to the victim, her father had urged her to leave earlier in the day, apparently trying to send her overseas. She was attending Timberline High School, where she thought staff could help her. The victim reportedly sought a safe space in the school, and planned to take public transit home after waiting for the bus.
While the victim waited, her father approached and insisted she return home. During the encounter, he allegedly attacked her, with her 16-year-old boyfriend attempting to intervene. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the father become aggressive, leading to a physical confrontation.
The victim’s boyfriend expressed concern, believing she was in serious danger during the incident. The father reportedly has a history of making threats, including claims of an honor-related murder due to the daughter’s refusal to enter a arranged marriage.
While the altercation was ongoing, bystanders intervened, leading to a physical struggle that allowed the victim to escape. A nearby adult stated their frustration over the lack of adult supervision at the bus stop, emphasizing that the situation was troubling for the young victim.
The hearing is anticipated to shed light on this complex and distressing family matter, as many questions remain about the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.
