A 17-year-old has been charged in relation to the death of 16-year-old Kayden Moy, who was fatally injured in what authorities are describing as a “targeted” attack at a beach in Scotland.

Emergency services were alerted to a teenager suffering serious injuries at Irvine Beach in North Ayrshire around 6:45 PM on Saturday. Kayden, from East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, was transported to Crosshouse Hospital near Kilmarnock but unfortunately passed away early the next morning.

Following his death, the 17-year-old was arrested and subsequently charged. He is expected to appear in Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday. Police have stated that their investigation is still ongoing.

Kayden’s family expressed their grief in a statement, noting how much he was loved and the overwhelming support they’ve received through messages since his passing. They appreciated the community’s kindness during this heartbreaking time.

DCI Campbell Jackson from the Scottish Police’s investigative team offered condolences to the Moy family, emphasizing that this was a targeted incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. He encouraged anyone with information to come forward, reassuring that even small details could be crucial to the investigation.

Supt Jim McMillan described the event as shocking and distressing, not just for Irvine Beach but for Kayden’s loved ones and the broader community. Police presence in the area will remain heightened, with additional patrols in place to address any community concerns.

Kayden was a student at Duncan Rig Middle School in East Kilbride. Principal Annette Alexander shared a heartfelt tribute, remembering him as a kind and compassionate young man who touched many lives.

In addition, he was a former player for Busby AFC, and the club expressed its devastation over his loss. They have initiated a GoFundMe campaign in his memory, which has already raised over £9,200.

Police are seeking information from the public, noting that there were reports of people filming on their phones during the incident. They urge anyone with information or footage to come forward as the investigation unfolds.
