Jerseys Stolen Before Egg Bowl Rivalry Game
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss had two of his jerseys taken by Mississippi State fans just before the Egg Bowl, as announced by head coach Lane Kiffin on Friday.
In an interview with SEC Network, Kiffin shared that their equipment manager set up cameras in the locker room the night before to prevent fans from breaking in. However, despite their efforts, fans managed to get in early Friday morning and stole Chambliss’ jersey again.
“I guess you don’t really have any expectations for people like this,” Kiffin remarked.
Fox News Digital has contacted Mississippi State for a statement regarding the incident. The Egg Bowl game took place in Starkville, the home of Mississippi State University.
This particular game held extra importance for Kiffin and Ole Miss, especially with the coach’s future hanging in the balance and the possibility of the Rebels securing a spot in the SEC Championship with a victory.
Before kickoff, Kiffin was asked how he planned to keep his players focused amidst the distractions. He responded, “They’ve been dealing with this for weeks, so we aim to win one game at a time. There’s a lot at stake here. Rivalry games are different; records don’t mean much. But if we can achieve 11 wins, that would be historic for this state. We’ll need to play consistently and execute well for four quarters.”
Chambliss, who transferred from Ferris State University, appeared unaffected by the theft situation. He led Ole Miss down the field, scoring touchdowns on their first two drives.
