Injury to Trinity Rodman During CONCACAF W Champions Cup
Trinity Rodman, a standout player for the Washington Spirit, suffered an injury during her team’s 4-0 victory against Monterrey in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup group stage on Wednesday. This incident occurred in the 41st minute when she went down after attempting a tackle. Trainers had to assist her off the field as it appeared she couldn’t bear weight on her right leg, and she was seen in tears.
After the match, Rodman was spotted using crutches and wearing a knee brace. As of now, the specifics of her injury remain unclear.
Spirit’s coach, Adrian Gonzalez, shared that they would have to wait until the following day for further insights, saying, “She’s scheduled to be tested tomorrow so we’ll have more information.” It’s worth noting that earlier that day, Rodman was recalled to the U.S. women’s national team for the first time since April, despite having faced ongoing back issues that limited her play since the U.S. secured gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Emma Hayes, the head coach of the USWNT, expressed her anticipation for Rodman’s return. “I’m really excited to have her back with the group, but the key thing is to ensure she’s healthy,” she stated. Hayes reflected on Rodman’s earlier return in April, indicating that while Rodman had felt confident at the time, she was likely managing unresolved back problems.
Rodman’s impact on the field has been significant, scoring 17 goals for the Spirit since her return. Her talent and potential have been noted, especially after being sidelined for an extended period.
