With the WHO declaring monkeypox to be a global threat in 2024, an event in 2022 is once again attracting attention.
Two years ago, an Italian man became the first patient to be diagnosed with monkeypox, COVID-19 and HIV all at the same time.
Before 2022, it was not thought possible for COVID-19 and monkeypox infections to occur at the same time, but this man appears to have proven scientists wrong.
According to reports, the man developed symptoms including fever, sore throat and headache nine days after returning from a trip to Spain, where he had unprotected sex with another man, and first tested positive for COVID-19 on July 2, 2022.
Just hours after testing positive, he developed a full-body rash and painful blisters that sent him to the emergency room, where he tested positive for monkeypox and learned he was also infected with HIV.
The 36-year-old’s case is not only unusual but alarming, but Pat Gray of “Pat Gray Unleashed” isn’t worried at all, at least not when it comes to himself.
“You might want to be a little more careful about your lifestyle,” Gray said, adding that “HIV and monkeypox appear to spread in very similar ways.”
