Troop Deaths Cast Light on Huge US Military Presence in Middle East

More than a decade since the official end of the Iraq War, four years after terror group ISIS’s so-called caliphate was destroyed, and two-and-a-half years removed from the hasty military withdrawal from Afghanistan, the deaths on Sunday of three U.S. soldiers at a base in Jordan cast a light on the tens of thousands of American troops who remain in harm’s way in the Middle East.

Iranian-backed militias have launched nearly 160 attacks targeting U.S. troops in Syria, Iraq, and now Jordan since the Oct. 7 war broke out between Israel and terror group Hamas.
