Rory McIlroy said Thursday he played in the first round of the RBC Canadian Open with a hangover after drinking wine, then confessed he was celebrating his caddie’s birthday the night before the tournament began.
McIlroy got off to a slow start, not scoring a single birdie in the opening rounds, but he picked up steam after that. 4 under 66 His card showed a score that tied him for third place. (RELATED: LPGA legend Lexi Thompson announces surprise retirement at age 29)
After the round, McIlroy told media he was “still feeling sleepy” after celebrating the birthday of his caddie and childhood friend, Harry Diamond.
In the second round of the RBC Canadian Open, McIlroy’s tee time is 12:55 p.m. local time.
Rory said he was a little sleepy this morning after drinking a few glasses of wine last night to celebrate his caddie Harry Diamond’s birthday. He didn’t have a birdie in the first half, but bounced back with a 66. He started well on his way to finishing in third place. @RBCCanadianOpen title.
