President Donald Trump has accused Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky of trying to “back out” the much-anticipated mineral contract.

“He's about to retreat from the rare earth trade. If so, he has some issues, big, big problems,” Trump said on Sunday. “We've signed a contract in the rare earth and now he's saying, 'Well, you know, I want to negotiate a deal.' ”

“He wants to be a member of NATO, but he never becomes a member of NATO. He understands that. So if he's trying to renegotiate a deal, he has a big problem,” he continued.

The agreement, which granted access to the US to billions of Ukrainian mineral deposits in exchange for security guarantees, was scheduled to be signed during Zelensky's oval office visit last month, but the release between Trump and Zelensky has derailed the arrangement.

Meanwhile, Zelensky has since said he would like to look over the draft agreement before moving forward.

President Trump recently said he was “offended” with the Russian president after questioning Zelensky's credibility.

“If Russia and I can't get a contract to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine and if it's Russia's fault, it may not be, but if it's Russia's fault, I'll put secondary tariffs on oil, I'll put all the oil coming out of Russia,” Trump said.

On Sunday evening, President Trump made clear about his comments on Putin, saying, “I don't think he's going to go back to what he says.”

“I've known him for a long time. We've always been doing well,” Trump adds, confirming that there is a “psychological deadline” in which Russia agrees to a ceasefire.

“If you think they're tapping us, I'm not happy about it.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov finally announced that President Putin will “remain able to stay in touch with President Trump… their conversations will be organized quickly if necessary.”
