Trump addresses Ukraine-Russia peace talks, says Zelenskyy will be involved

President Donald Trump spoke about plans to end the Russo-Ukrainian War at a press conference on Sunday, saying that leaders of both countries believe they want to “stop the fight.”

On Sunday afternoon, Trump said on the runway at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida, that he is currently “trying to achieve peace with Russia and Ukraine.”

“And we're working very hard on that,” he said. “It's a war that never began.”

When asked whether Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelenki would be expected to be involved in the conversation, Trump replied in affirmation.

Trump details his mutual tariff plans and asks foreign countries to “treat us fairly”: “delivering reciprocity.”

“He's going to be involved,” Trump said. When asked by a reporter, Trump also said he would allow Europeans to purchase American-made weapons sold to Ukraine.

The Republican president says Russian President Vladimir Putin, who began the war with the annexation of Crimea in February 2014 and escalated by invading Ukraine in February 2022, wants to end the war. I did.

“He wants to stop fighting,” Trump said. “They have big, powerful machines, do you understand that? And they beat Hitler, they beat Napoleon. He's been fighting for a long time… I want him to stop fighting.”

“Zelenskyy wants to finish that too.”

Trump's comments came shortly after an “Meet the Press” interview with Zelenskyy aired on NBC.

“I said that [Putin] A liar, “Zelensky spoke about his recent call to Trump,” and he said, “I think my feelings are that he's ready for these negotiations.” And I said to him, “No, he's a liar. He doesn't want peace.”

“But I think he's a bit scared of President Trump,” Zelensky added. “And I think the president has this opportunity, he's strong. And I think he can push Putin into peace negotiations. Yes, I think so. Putin only trusts the words about the ceasefire. Please don't.”
