In a “real-time” broadcast on HBO on Friday, host Bill Maher said, “The government's mission creep is outrageous and a Trump administration review of USAID funding and government funding is needed. And that's too much. ” And “There's a lot to cut,” but they're cutting everything in USAID right away, so that's not the right way to do things.
Maher started by saying that crazy, leftist ones aren't the very thing that USAID does.
Rep. Byron Donald (R-FL) replied that he didn't say it was pretty much, but “When you have that kind of thing that permeates any organization, you look at the whole organization. You have to look into it and then leave things behind, which is a good thing, and removes the rot.”
Maher replied, “Yes. I agree. …But that's not what they're doing. They're just taking everything off at once. I agree, it's there – it's $40 billion The programme of the government's mission creep is outrageous. And it's too much. I've seen the government. [Accountability] Office – It's not the Trump administration – I've said it over the last 20 years – … Trillions of inappropriate payments. This is not billions, but trillions. What could have been done with that money? That was the case in 2023 $236 billion of inappropriate payments. So this doesn't mean there's no need to do it. But the way they are doing it is not know how much aid we should give to other countries to cut it off immediately, to cut it off all at one time. Later, Maher stated: “There are a lot of things to cut, but there are ways to do that. For example, I read the Department of Justice Environmental Division, and they want to cut back. There is also the EPA's Office of Environmental Justice. So. Does the EPA have a Judicial Service and the Department of Justice have an Environmental Service? How about everyone doing their job? …We like the four Air Forces.”
Maher added: “But the way you're doing it is a bit crazy. These teenagers running around the building, is this really something that was in the plan? Is there a better way to soften this a little? ”
