Trump Administration Plans to Deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia
The Trump administration recently addressed the situation surrounding Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who is accused of gang activity, during an online hearing. Attorney Jonathan Ginn from the Justice Department stated that the plan remains to deport Garcia, but this time to a “third country” rather than El Salvador.
An insightful comment emerged during the proceedings: “If this court does not act promptly, the government is likely to remove Abrego Garcia.” It seems like the government is quite eager to finalize its plans.
Previously, Garcia had been deported to a notorious prison in El Salvador, known for housing terrorists. However, a ruling from the Supreme Court necessitated his return to the U.S. Subsequently, he faced indictment for smuggling, with assurances from the government that he wouldn’t be walking free on American streets.
During a conference call with Garcia’s attorneys, Ginn assured District Judge Paula Sinni that the government intends to follow all court orders as there’s no “immediate plans” to deport Garcia at this moment.
Garcia’s legal representatives have filed a request for Sinni to mandate that he be transported to Maryland after he is released from a Tennessee prison. The urgency of this request seems quite pronounced, as they fear the government may attempt to expeditiously deport Garcia over the weekend.
“We will comply with orders received from this court and other courts,” said Guynn, yet he noted that there is no specific timeline for these procedures.
Sinni mentioned that a hearing had been slated for July 7, indicating that the request could not be evaluated until the administration’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit was addressed.
Interestingly, another judge in Nashville had decided that Garcia deserved to be released while awaiting trial, pointing out that the government hadn’t provided sufficient evidence regarding flight risks or potential threats to the community.
His lawyer conveyed concerns in writing, emphasizing that “if this court does not act promptly, the government is likely to drive Abrego Garcia away from Maryland.” Meanwhile, Garcia continues to reject the allegations regarding his involvement with the notorious MS-13 gang.
