New Immigration Enforcement Operation Launched in New Orleans
The Trump administration has initiated a new operation targeting undocumented criminals in New Orleans, focusing on those who have already been released into the community.
On Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced “Operation Catahoula Crunch,” aimed at apprehending “criminal illegal aliens” who are free due to local sanctuary policies that hinder cooperation with ICE.
The announcement pointed out that various “notorious criminal illegal aliens” have been “released onto the streets of Louisiana,” which raises concerns. Among those highlighted is Juan Ramon Dubon Argueta, a “deported” individual from Honduras with a history of serious offenses, including aggravated assault and child endangerment.
Another individual mentioned is José Fernando Arzu-Osolto, also from Honduras, who has faced charges for indecent assault on a minor and armed robbery. Despite previous arrests, he had been reinstated into society under sanctuary policies but was later apprehended again.
“Sanctuary policies endanger American communities by allowing illegal criminal aliens to return. This forces DHS law enforcement to risk their lives to remove individuals that never should have been back on the streets,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“It is outrageous that these individuals were allowed back into New Orleans, fostering more crime and more victims. Targets of Operation Catahoula Crunch include those who were previously arrested for serious crimes like home invasion and rape. Under the Trump administration, we are committed to restoring law and order,” a DHS spokesperson emphasized.
Additionally, the Trump administration declared an entry moratorium for 19 countries identified as high security risks, alongside a review for individuals admitted under the previous administration.
This uptick in immigration enforcement comes after President Trump revealed plans to deploy the National Guard to New Orleans, with assurances from Louisiana’s Republican Governor Jeff Landry that reinforcements should arrive before Christmas.
“Governor Landry is doing a fantastic job. He’s been asked to assist in New Orleans, and we’ll be there soon,” President Trump stated on Tuesday.
The operations in New Orleans reflect the Trump administration’s continued approach to immigration enforcement, aligning with campaign promises to secure borders and deport illegal aliens involved in violent crimes.
