WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security took steps to address illegal immigration in Chicago on Monday.
The DHS announced Operation Midway Blitz, named after Katie Abraham, who tragically died in a hit-and-run incident involving an intoxicated driver, Julio Kakuru Bol, an undocumented immigrant from Illinois.
This operation aims to focus on undocumented individuals who commit crimes, particularly those drawn to Chicago, often due to the lenient policies of Governor JB Pritzker, which can create a sense of safety for them. The department’s statement also suggested that while President Trump and Secretary Nome align with victims of crimes related to undocumented immigrants, Governor Pritzker seems to side with those individuals instead.
There has been increased activity from ICE for over a week, hinting that significant operations may be forthcoming.
Although the current initiative is not a comprehensive law enforcement operation, Trump has expressed concerns about potentially deploying federal agents to tackle rising crime in the city.
Recently, Trump mentioned that he is awaiting an invitation from both Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. “We want to go to Chicago,” he stated during a speech in Washington, D.C. “We’re waiting for a call from Chicago.”
